Radiology

Radiology is a department in the hospital where use is made of, among other things, X-rays. In this department, radiation is used for various purposes:

  • Diagnostics
  • Therapy

Because different forms of radiation are used which can be harmful to personnel and patients when exposed to unnecessarily, it is important that these do not leak into surrounding areas. For this, radiation-resistant doors can offer a solution.

Take a look at which door fits your situation best:

Radiology department

The radiology department in a hospital deals with imaging examinations and treatments used for diagnostics and therapy. The use of radiation provides insight into the tissue and organs of patients, which is useful for making a diagnosis or for treatment. The different forms of radiation used are:

  • Sound waves
  • Radioactive radiation
  • Radio waves
  • X-ray imaging

On the one hand, the use of radiation provides many advantages for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. On the other hand, too much radiation is harmful to the human body and therefore unnecessary exposure to radiation should be avoided.

For the protection of patients and staff, it is essential that the radiation methods mentioned above do not leak into rooms adjacent to the radiation rooms. Metaflex lead doors ensure this does not happen.

Radiation-resistant doors

Metaflex radiation-resistant doors (link) are inlaid with lead and are therefore very suitable for rooms where radiation is used. The Metaflex lead doors are inlaid with 1 to 3 millimetres of lead, which makes them suitable for both areas with light radiation and areas with strong radiation.

Furthermore, the radiation-resistant doors can be equipped with a lead glass viewing window. As a result, the door offers both protection against radiation for patients and employees, as well as the option to maintain visual contact with the patient. Other (optional) characteristics of the radiation-resistant doors are:

  • Airtight according to ANSI/UL 1784 and classification 4 according to DIN EN 12207
  • Fire resistant for 30 to 60 minutes according to EN 1634-1
  • Noise reducing up to a maximum of 43 dB
  • Smoke reducing according to EN 1634-3

The lead insert makes the doors very heavy, but due to the automatic operation by means of the SDA-04, the ease of use is maintained.
